Fees & practicalities
The practical side, clearly set out
Therapy is an investment of time, money and trust. You deserve to know exactly how things work before you commit to anything.
Sessions
Sessions last 50 minutes and take place at the same time each week — in person in [Town/City], or online via secure video if you live elsewhere in the UK. A regular, protected time is part of how the therapy works.
Fees
Sessions are £[fee] each, payable by bank transfer [or card] before or on the day of the session. I hold a small number of reduced-fee places for people on lower incomes; please ask if cost is a barrier, and we can talk about it.
Introductory call
Before booking anything, I offer a free 15-minute phone or video call. It's a chance for you to ask questions, tell me a little about what brings you, and get a feel for whether you'd be comfortable working with me.
Cancellations
I ask for [48 hours'] notice to cancel or rearrange a session. Sessions cancelled with less notice are charged in full, because the time is held for you each week. I'll always try to offer an alternative time in the same week where I can. [Review and confirm this policy]
Breaks & endings
We plan breaks around holidays and life events together. When the time comes to end, we'll talk about it and bring the work to a proper close rather than stopping abruptly — endings matter in therapy.
The first session
What happens in a first session
A gentle beginning
There's nothing to prepare. We'll start with whatever feels most pressing for you — or, if you don't know where to begin, I'll help you find a way in. Most people find the first session much less daunting than they expected.
Some practical questions
I'll ask a little about your background, your health and what you hope for from therapy. This isn't an assessment you can pass or fail — it simply helps me understand you and make sure I'm the right person to help.
Your questions, answered
You can ask me anything — about how I work, about confidentiality, about what therapy is really like. It's important that you leave with a clear picture.
No obligation
Afterwards, you're free to take time to think. If you'd like to continue, we'll agree a regular weekly time. If not, I may be able to suggest other therapists or services that would suit you better — genuinely, no hard feelings.
FAQs
Practical questions, answered
Do you offer a free consultation?
Yes — a free 15-minute phone or video call before you book anything. It's informal and there's no obligation to continue.
How often are sessions?
Weekly, at the same time each week. Regularity matters in this kind of therapy — the steady rhythm is part of what makes deeper work possible.
Do you work with insurance providers?
[State whether you are registered with any private health insurers, e.g. AXA, Aviva, Bupa, or 'I am not currently registered with insurance providers, but I can provide receipts if your policy allows you to claim.']
Is there parking / step-free access?
[Describe the practice location: parking, public transport, floor and lift access, toilet facilities, etc.]
What if I need urgent help between sessions?
Therapy isn't an emergency service, and I'm not able to offer crisis support between sessions. If you need urgent help, please contact your GP, call NHS 111, or the Samaritans on 116 123 (free, 24 hours a day). In an emergency, call 999 or go to A&E.
Can I stop whenever I want?
Yes — you're never tied in. All I ask is that, where possible, we plan the ending together and take a session or two to bring the work to a close properly.
